PRISONER CAST REUNION FOR 774 ABC ... Tuesday, 10th February 2009 will bring together a number of the original cast from the iconic television show Prisoner. They will re-unite for a one-hour special on the ABC Network's Radio show "The Conversation Hour" (774 ABC). The cast will come together from three separate cities within Australia; Award winning actress Val Lehman in Brisbane with Carol Burns, Amanda Muggleton with Fiona Spence in Sydney and Colette Mann with Jane Clifton in-studio with host, Jon Faine from Melbourne. Jane Clifton will also co-host the show.

This one-hour live-to-air special will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the show going to air in Australia on the 10 Network. Upcoming Events scheduled in Melbourne for the Anniversary include: a gourmet BBQ with cast members, held in the grounds of Global Television Studios (in full view of the studio building which was used as the outside of the actual Prison itself) which fans can attend and a separate "Dine With" evening organised by the Official Prisoner Fanclub, On The Inside with much-celebrated actress Maggie Kirkpatrick, who was responsible for the faultless portrayal of evil warden, Joan "The Freak" Ferguson.

From 1979 to 1986, the multi-Logie winning drama series Prisoner left no stone unturned. Its controversial storylines of rape, incest, drug abuse, murder, euthanasia and homosexuality saw the show censored often and banned in the state of Utah in America, where it aired in prime time attracting audiences of over 39 million.

But the show had its biggest success a few short years after its Australian run ended in 1986. The UK had been late to catch on to the phenomena that was Prisoner, but when it did its effect was immediate and large-scale; the show developing to cult viewing status within a matter of months. Special VHS and book releases prompted a run of Prisoner theatre productions (featuring some of the original cast) and a unique first-of-its-kind, Chat-Show format which toured the UK in 1990. This all served to support an estimated 12 million viewers-per-episode, who craved anything Prisoner related; many of whom are still extremely hungry for anything Prisoner related today.

Another milestone for Prisoner came more recently when the entire 692 episodes was released on DVD after much campaigning by Val Lehman and the shows fans. With 40 Volumes, 176 DVD discs and over 692 hours of viewing, it is the biggest box set ever to be released anywhere in the world.
